Assignment for November 15

1. Capture and edit your footage into a final edit (preferably in iMovie, though you can use other programs if you let me know about it). Remember you can add animations to it!

2. Explore adding audio to your piece if you don't have any audio in the piece (of if you want to add some).

3. Output your movie into a compressed format (A good standard size is 320 pixels wide by 240 pixels high -- for wide-screen consider, 480 by 270).

4. Bring on a USB or burn on a CD to bring into class. Don't post it yet! We'll look at them and look at posting options on Thursday.

Will an avi file be readable on macs, since I did mine with windows movie maker?

AVIs are readable on any Mac, provided you didn't add any special codec. But odds being that you didn't, it should be fine.

Kim,

You should be okay. There's no option to output as a .mov?

Kim said...

Nope, no special codecs. I didn't see any option to output it as a .mov or anything other than an .avi - I'll tinker with it some more tonight, since it's the first time I've ever used the program I could have missed something =)

By the way I think the biggest challenge in this project was trimming it to 60-90 seconds. I had almost 10 minutes of footage, and claimed a moral victory when I trimmed it down to 5! (Its at about 80 seconds long now).

Ravi,
I've been booked for a late job and may be a few minutes late to class tomorrow. I'm posting my newest version of the 4 minute by 4 minute cheeseburger. I have music but not the time to put it on this evening.

Kim --

Trimming down is a huge challenge! I find it helps to periodically step away and come back to a piece with "fresh" eyes. Now with the web and DVD, directors have the safety of being able to present gems from the cutting room floor.

Read the second sentence of #4 in the assignment! ;-) Thanks for the heads up about your work -- we'll see you when you get in. I would like for you to talk about your experiences posting on YouTube (since I do not).

I'd be happy to show people how to upload on Youtube and help them set up an account.

I set up an account on Blip.tv as well. The quality there is fantastic. Thanks for the heads up on that.

See you tomorrow night.

Good thing I tinkered some more - I went to burn my movie to a CD this morning and realized it saved as a .wmv I'm thinking macs wouldn't take too kindly to windows media files... so I found out how to export as .avi, and sadly no .mov option.

Kim,

Bring any and all formats and we'll see what we can do!
